Diary of a Wimpy Kid hats are hard to find because 1) only a couple of styles were made, 2) they were made for a limited time, and 3) they are sold out in most places.
Amazon has had a couple in stock but they sell out quickly and are often through resellers.
Borders has a purple one but it is not available locally. If you are lucky, you can keep trying back at your local stores or Borders.com and they do come into stock every now and again.

I tried to order the hat on 10/28 and was told it was on backorder.
I went back tonight to actually place the order and I am not able to place it.
I promised it to a grandchild.
What is wrong with the Borders website?
The Hat’s went on sale today 11/9/10 the day of the laydown. The promotion runs until 11/30 or while supplies last.
Borders is a dissapointment. They are closing the one near me in Carlsbad CA 92009

I preordered the book on 10/14/2010. Went tonite to the Borders on Rt17 Ramsey N.J. with my 6 year old Grandson and the book wasn’t there. I asked about the hats on a shelf and was told by the 12 year old manager they were reserved for pre-orders only. Showed him my receipt from Borders.Com, where’s my hat and book??. Explained to my grandson that I pre-ordered the book for lees($8.21) than it was being sold ($13.00)for and I would come back when the book arrived, for a 6 year old he was very understanding, When I got home tonite an e-mail stated the book would arrive tomorrow. I was 1 of 3 customers complaining about the books not being there. Borders needs to run there stores better
Goosh I am so sorry that happened to you also, because Yeah Borders can take their “pre-order ” lies because my 9yr old pre-pre-ordered it on 10/5/10 thru them and guess what he didn’t even get the New Book and it’s 11/10/10 !!!! Borders told me thru email oh sorry tough luck and it’s on back order now so it could be 4-8 weeks so basicly they give a hoot, so I told them and the Whimpy Kids author cause I cc. them why do I see the books and hat in stores today ? And I also said that it’s hard enough to get boy’s to read let alone a whole seris so thanks a lot he was devestated cause he also waited and waited counted down days and it never came and no hat I have never seen my son soooo sad about a BOOK !!!! Borders told me I would have to order hat seperate and pay full price. I wrote back seriously ??? So all uf us who “pre-ordered” and PAID for it already mind you, Borders didn’t put the pre-order customers books into consideration FIRST and mail them out FIRST ! I was like that’s it I am done with Borders and I am sure I won’t make much of a difference to them ( little fish me big pond them) but what ever happened to REAL CUSTOMER SERVICE? Iam done I should have just ordered it thru Barnes & Noble I would have gotten it 2 days before like all the other Whimpy kids books I order thru them.
